INTERVIEW WITH KERRY FROM JOHN WILKES BOOTH

Stoner Rock,Sludge,Punk,Metal or Dirt Rock as John Wilkes Booth call themselves. The band have already carve out a pretty solid reputation for themselves. Its easy to see why when you listen to their stuff, dirty punk sludged out stoner rock cranked up to the max.I dig them which is why i asked for this interview and here it is. 1. Ok.. lets get the boring stuff out of the way, when and how did the band and its members get together ? Harry, Jay & Christian were jamming together for a while jamming instrumental. They put an ad out in 2005 looking for a singer & I answered it. I became an official member in 2206 when Christian finally decided I could sing. 2.The band has a wide selection of influences that make JWB into the unique sounding band that it is.How would you sum up the JWB sound ? We refer to our sound as "dirt rock" We tend to have a dirty sludgy sound but try hard to steer away from any one "genre" 3.You always seem to be playing live,do you know how many shows in total you have played and whats been the highlights so far ? I would say we played about 50+ shows Our highlight would probably be our West Virginia gig. We were told it was a music festival with bands from all over and we would play to hundreds of people. We get to this place in the middle of the woods after driving for 8 hours. It's a stage in someone's front yard way in the backwoods of West Virginia. Long story short we played with a bunch of death metal bands the sound guy passed out, we hit the stage at 1 A.M. to about 20 drunk rednecks. 4.A sense of humor seems to be a key in the band's attitude,is this really how you approach life in general ? I would like to say we try to have a sense of humor about everything. Our lyrics are pretty dark so we try not to take ourselves to seriously so we're not all doom & gloom. 5.The band has a Stoner Rock feel to it mixed with a punk edge. Am.. i right about this, please correct me if you think i am wrong ? I think that sums us up pretty well. But we try to not to fall into the trap of writing for a genre. We have a new tune that's sounds a bit like Dinosaur Jr. 6.The album "Sic Semper Tyrannis" is full of killer tracks but what is the best stuff on there do you think ? Being a band member it's hard to say but my favorites are Eye Rack, Smack for Larry, & Albino Mechanic 7.The name ?What was the inspiration behind that ? No real inspiration we all came in with band names and Christian's pick was John Wilkes Booth. For some reason it was an instant yes by all band members 8.Like i have already mentioned you play live a lot,do you get a lot of support from venue owners and so on ? Mr. Beery's here on Long Island rules and treats us very well. All other NY venues suck for the most part. We get treated a hell of a lot better when we play in other states. 9.You have had some good reviews to your work but has there been any negative ones and why ? We had 2 negative reviews. One said we have potential and the other said nothing about the music they just commented on the artwork & liner notes. We are actually quite surprised at the number of great reviews we have received. 10.I have never seen the band live myself but judging by the songs it must make for a high energy live experience. Is it easy getting all that energy out on stage ? It comes naturally but it takes it's toll on the aging body 11.What tours have you done or what tours would you like to do ? We would love to play with Clutch ot The Melvins those are two of our favs 12.Myspace is a really like a swampland full of shitty bands. How has it been for you getting your music attention on here,i know a lot of bands have a hard time getting noticed. Myspace has been our savior. We have made many friends through myspace. We have fans fly from other countries to see us play, pretty amazing. 13.Give us a rundown of recordings and whats in the future for the band,CD's,Tours etc .......... We have a albums worth of new material and we are looking for someone to pay for us to record them, and we're playing Pittsburgh in March & The Maryland SHOD festival in September 14.Final words, its Myspace so let loose...... Buy our cd, come to our shows help keep independant music alive!! It's more important now than ever, everything has been homogenized. Plus we need dough to record. Our cd "Sic Semper Tyrannis" is available on cdbaby & Itunes Thanks so much for the support and the interview! Kerry JWB http://www.myspace.com/jwilkesbooth
