Orchard Interview

1.Tell us about how you all met and how the original idea for the band came together. Izzy:Sometime near the end of 2007 late August. Was when Kyle and Sylvain hooked up with our drummer Bruce.Mostly just playing improvised jam sessions.Which is where some of our present material originated from. 2.From listening to the songs on your Myspace page you have a obvious love for the 70's and also Doom Metal Is there any one band you like to model yourself on ? Bruce:I don't think we model ourselves on any band in particular,Yes we do have a love for 70's vintage sounds and such. But i think we are trying to identify ourselves as who we are.Whoever we are>? 3.How is life in New Brunswick,i don't know much about the area. Is it small or big and hows the music scene there ? Bruce:N.B. quite a huge province and is a good place to be if you enjoy the outdoors, salt water and lobster and good people. Izzy:The music scene here is always growing. In the past we had "The Undergrowth" website which was a database/forum for local metal bands all across the maritime.Undergrowth eventually fell through and became the Maritime Metal forum. There is also a local label called Diminished Fifth records which is getting bigger and bigger.Last year they got full distribution in the U.K. 4.One for Izzy - You play guitar but have gone to singing in this band, hows has that been for you ? Izzy:Well that's a good question.lol It's really fun just singing but We are slowly starting to write songs with me on guitar.Actually we have one song called "Metamorphosed with Delight" which i play guitar on. So yea 5.First gig is coming up,tell us about that and are you nervous ? Bruce:Yes a little bit nervous since our rehearsals have been cut down cause of in climate weather which we have no control over. But we have been rehearsing like if we were playing the show. So yea i think we are ready for this first show. Izzy:Im really stoked about this show. We will be opening up for longtime friends/partners in crime Dead for Days.Should be a good one. 6.What about your songs, how many have you wrote and what is some of the topics described in the lyrics ? Izzy:At the moment we have 7 or 8 originals. Most of what i write about is derived from ancient alchemical texts and Occultism of course.lol Crowley is the main inspiration in my writing as well as some Edgar Allan Poe.I also use a lot of metaphysical terms, quantum physics and the afterlife,Tibetan Book of the Dead. 7.What is your opinion on the Doom Metal scene, there seems to be a slight shift back to traditional Doom Metal with bands like Lamp Of Thoth etc Is the type of direction you want to head in ? Izzy:Man i love all that stuff Hour of 13,TGOS,Blood Ceremony,Warning etc,etc It's definitely the direction i would like to go in for sure. Im not so sure though we fall in the category of traditional yet. 8.What recordings have you done so far and can we expect a CD sometime soon ? Bruce: So far we have 6 songs recorded none have been mastered yet.Everything is still in pre-production,raw and un-mastered. We are hoping to record a full length CD sometime before fall 2009 9 Is there any labels you would love to work with or are you keeping a open mind about it ? Izzy:For now i think we need a proper mastered demo cd to shop around for labels, hopefully the right label will come along and snap us up when the time is right. 10.What is the writing process for you guys,a lot of jamming ? Izzy:All the songs on the myspace were written by the band together, then we recorded the songs and i wrote the lyrics after. 11.I was trying to think of a band you guys sound most like and i came up with Cathedral. Is this a pretty fair comparison? Izzy:I would say it is very fair.Cathedral played a huge part in my life and opened many doors musically for me.Thanks to Gaz for his cosmic vibes. 12.What bands and other projects has all the members been involved with ? Izzy:Sylvain and Kyle came from a band called October Forest.I was in the following bands Green Honey/Necropolis/Slough of Despond Bruce:Growing up i played in a lot of bands,my background in music came from Jazz/swing/big band in school. Then around when i turned 16 i discovered 70's hard rock.Which has influenced me to play ever since. 13.Looking into the future a bit,is there any long term goals the band wants to go for.Tours etc ? Bruce:I guess the bands first goal would be to have a full length out before next year. From there on we might be able to set up a mini tour of the maritime. As far as long term goals go if we can keep playing shows and creating new material. We'll let the music take us wherever it leads us. 14.What is each members favorite bands ? Sylvain:Opeth,Sleep,Electric Wizard Bruce:Led Zeppelin,Black Sabbath,Iron Maiden,Kyuss Izzy:Death SS,Cathedral,Voivod,Pagan Altar and Pentagram Kyle:Necrophagist,Megadeth,Tool 15 Do you think you will be Doom Rocking for life, you seem to be real fans of Doom Metal,Progressive Rock and Hard and Heavy Music in general.I always think if you a real fan of these genre's first it always makes for better songs and a better band in general Do you agree ? Izzy:I devote myself to DOOM i will be dooming it out for life until death. And i agree that if you are a true fan it's your mission to spread the gospel of doom.I'll quote some lyrics from Reverend Bizarre "you gave doom to men,we try to do the same". 16.With the first gig coming up,have you got anything worked in terms of image?I don't think image is that important with this type of music but nearly all bands have some sort of image to put across. What is your image, hippie doom rockers maybe ha ha ? Izzy:As far as image goes we haven't put much emphasis on it yet.But i really dig Steve Sylvester's outfit in the"Broken Soul" video i thought it would be cool to have something tailored for myself. Or maybe just have us in black cloaks and medieval peasant suit's like the front cover of W.G. "Death Penalty" maybe have some skulls with burning incense, candles and some trippy Indian rugs. 17 Ok last one,how can people get into contact with the band for gigs or just info on what you are doing, your Myspace page and is there any chance of a official website anytime soon? Bruce:An official website would be nice but in the meanwhile if anyone has any questions or would like to get in contact with us. our myspace page would be the way to do it. http://www. myspace. com/greenorchard07
