Anybody here old enough to remember the early 80's if you wanted to play real Epic Doom Metal it meant you really had some real class in your playing. Some of that finesse has gone out of the Metal scene in the last last decade but bands like "Altar Of Oblivion" are one band that all the qualities of a classy Doom Metal act of the 80's.Think part "Trouble","Candlemass",Solitude Aeturnus" and throw in some "Revelation" and you get somewhere close to where this great Danish band are coming from.Mind-blowing guitar work features throughout the entire album all mixed some of the most emotional vocal work done by singer "Mik",who has so much talent it is a pure inspiration to hear this dude's vocals soar.
"Martin's guitar work has a unique edge to it and the riffs are so catchy and filled with passion.Simply put this a very 80's sounding album but it is not of the dated variety. This sounds real fresh and add the majestic songwriting skills of this band and you have one incredible piece of classic Epic Doom Metal.Anybody who heard their demo would know the potential of the band but not many people would have expected such a emotional Metal Rollercoaster ride that "Altar Of Oblivion" have delivered here.8 tracks and 8 total winners, this is one complete piece of conceptual Heavy Doom Metal. One of the early picks for best album of 2009.9.5/10

ReplyDeleteGreat blog, congrats. Just one little detail...Don't believe that crap about "stealing" music...There was never so many underground bands as there is now. It's the big labels who don't want to share the profits with the bands, anyway why should a musician have huge pay outs when I get minimum wage to work in a factory ? Please don't get me wrong, I do support underground bands, I buy CD's, shirts and go to gigs when possible. Although downloading an album from some already extinct or unknown band doesn't come across to me as stealing. I'll give you an example, a couple of years ago I downloaded a Pagan Altar album (a band I never heard before, at the time) I loved them so much, that I now own all their discography minus the ultra rare stuff, bought off the band or as close as possible.

Just to clarify something,i have no problem with people downloading music to sample a album. The problem is i know so many people who NEVER buy CD's,they download everything for free.I can understand if you are low on cash and need to hear something real bad so you grab a free download.Hell i do that myself at times,i just feel sorry for bands that only sell a few copies of something while its getting downloaded for free by hundreds of people.I can give you many examples of that. Most underground bands make no money as it is and so i always buy 99% of the time.
