Echo - Omnivoid

This is a interesting demo from Italian band "Echo" which is one of the more harder bands i had to review lately.Harder because the band has no clearly defined sound,rather a mixture of genres that combined to create a sound somewhere half way between Funeral Doom and Gothic rock.All the tracks on here have atmospheric keyboards, various mid-tempo arrangements, arpeggios and a ethereal atmosphere.The musicians themselves are obviously very good and the production on this which is basically a demo is excellent.Opening track "disclaiming my Faults" has some winding moving instrumental passages which are quite striking to the ear and the vocals are very different from what you would hear from the average Doom band.The vocals range from the quietly sung to the total death growls while the music ranges from experimental like sounds of Pink Floyd to the more Gothic Doom sounds of Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema.There is no weak tracks here but the tracks themselves took me several listens to really grab me.There is nothing wrong with their instrumental ability,its just the combination of styles take a while to get use to.Songs are well arranged and would appeal to a wide variety of Doom Metal fans and general Rock fans alike.It is always good to hear a band that is not so easy to put a tag on,they have their own sound and while you can hear some influences what they do with them is something else completely.Interesting band and definitely a band to watch out for.8/10
