Forests Of Old: Voices From Oblivion EP

As most people know i don't review many Black Metal acts but this band made me change all that because this is so good,it can't be ignored.The E.P kicks off with "Dark Passenger" which is a dark brooding slab of Black Metal.There is a sinister down-tempo feel to some of the track but is also full of brain melting fast passages which at first listen reminds you of Bathory's finest works."From Within the Fog" is different though because its reeks of macabre ambiance,it's really just a short interlude before launching into " Prides Victim With Wulv which brings you back to earth or is that hell.A classic piece of Black Metal mayhem.Shredding riffs are bound to leave you exhausted as the track rips from start to finish.The track doe's have a slower mid section but its no less heavy or dramatic.The songs has a epic " Dimmu Borgir" feeling about it but without sounding like a rip off in any way.The vocals are a highlight of this EP,full of tormented cries and anguish.The rest of the EP continues in the same vein of Black Metal meets Ambient darkness.The sound on here is great,perfect for what they are doing as its pretty much un-likely you find anything better in Black Metal these days.This will appeal to both fans of old Black Metal and some of the newer stuff as well.Impressive but short,can't wait for a full length from them.9/10
