Last year’s Sub Templum was one of the most extreme exercises in monolithic Doom ever created and now they are back.A bit different this time around but no less punishing.Tombs of the Blind Drugged has shorter tracks than usual but it is no less devastating as they deliver 4 tracks of crushing subterranean Doom Sludge but yet its somewhat restrained. One of the big changes is vocalist Olly Pearson is more on show here showcasing his trademark screams.Although this is a EP you still get 4o minutes of classic Moss starting with "Skeletal Keys" a monster of a track that continues on where the last album finished off. After that however things are a bit more subdued mainly due to the the production which is a little under-produced and flat.A minor criticism however as this is still one of those head crushing releases that will stand the test of time.Moss after all grows in cold and damp places and that is the kind of atmosphere this music creates.Second track "Tombs Of The Blind Drugged and Third track "Serpent" have a simple but effective arrangement that benefits from the use of a organ which adds new depth to their style of Occult Horror Doom. There is more a sense of melody on these tracks than on previous releases but still is as heavy and dark than they have ever been. The big surprise here is the final track which is a cover of "Discharge's" "Maimed And Slaughtered" and while its a good version the previous original tracks are the real highlights. This continues their reign as one of the heaviest bands on the planet.9/10
