This is not really a review because after all any Doom/Stoner fan would know this album back to front anyway.The album is a pure classic,a timeless piece of Stoner Doom history that is hard to beat.Released in 1993 it is still a major influence on all things Stoner Rock and Doom Metal.So this is why i was real excited to hear this was being re-released by Earache Records,i mean my copy has been played so many times it is a miracle it works at all.Once i got hold of the new digipack my excitement turned to disappointment.I was expected a whole bunch of extras but all you get is a bonus track(a cover of Sabbath's Snowblind) and a quicktime version of the Dragonaut video,both of which i have heard/seen a million times.
I have had Dragonaut on DVD for years anyway and you can watch that video anytime you want on Youtube.Maybe they are trying to bring Sleep a new generation of fans 16 years later which is cool by me but this reissue could have been so much more.A second disc with Demo's or even the Volume 2 record could have been a killer bonus but no such luck.A golden opportunity to do something really special for Sleep fans has been lost.Still it goes without saying this is pure gold,i doubt if there is anyone reading this who has never heard "Holy Mountain" but if there is you better put this at number one on your most wanted list.
