Whores - Ruiner ...

I have a uncontainable and unashamed love for Bandcamp. Mostly because, with the help of good sites like The Soda Shop, it allows me to get my ears on some music that would possibly have a hard time being regularly distributed through different channel. A band like Whores would've been ruling, in the age of Amphetamine Reptile. Now, if you know me, that sentence is a major sign of how much I loved this EP. I am a BIG fan of the harshest, sludgiest school of noise rock, the type that Unsane before their underwhelming reunion, early Helmet or the seminal Jesus Lizard. But let's be clear: Whores are way heavier than that. Their roots are in that sound, with its big, steady drumming, the pounding riffage and the harsh, psychotic vocals. Only the band plays it through a coat of devastating, tar like heaviness that make the impact of the mixture lethal.

It's a very short Ep, five tracks that reach barely twenty minutes, but it is incredibly intense. From the opening head-crushing slam of “Daddy's Money” to the final (and quintessential AmRep-esque) neurotic explosion of “Tell Me Something Scientific”, Whores are out to kill. The best way to describe the feeling this thing left me with is crushed and craving. The monolithic, mammoth noise sludge will hit hard, play it loud and you'll see., And you'll want more.....8/10
