At Roadburn we tend to do things slightly differently. Instead of announcing next year’s curator and overall headliner after the festival, we’d like to start off Roadburn 2012 with some very exciting news, as we simply can’t wait to share our excitement with all of you over the next four days.
As curator, Jus Oborn will personally select the bands that will play during the special event at Roadburn, and Electric Wizard will perform a special headline show. We are especially elated about this news because Electric Wizard‘s crushing riffs and psychedelic sounds are the embodiment of the musical spirit of the Roadburn Festival. We are very confident that Jus Oborn has a great sense of the kinds of bands that Roadburn fans will want to see and we look forward to his selections.
Electric Wizard‘s gigantic riffs crash down like an avalanche, sweeping masses of headbangers along on a euphoric wave of oblivion. Their horror film fixation and psychedelic tendencies are completely in tune with Roadburn and their music is loved by all who come to our festival, so it makes perfect sense that Jus Oborn will be the next in the select group of curators that includes David Tibet, Neurosis, Tom Gabriel Warrior, Sunn 0))), and Voivod. In addition to Jus curating, Electric Wizard will be bringing their live show to Roadburn on Friday, April 19th, 2013.
Jus also shared these thoughts regarding the event “I am planning the ultimate ELECTRIC ACID ORGY…its gonna be sick…only the heaviest, most evil drugmetal possible and we will bring our mind altering light show and visuals. Also we are gonna have a room showing all our favourite horror and sleaze movies…Roadburn 2013 is gonna be a real ‘bad’ trip …hahahahaha.”
Having Jus team with Roadburn to present this special event is a perfect match. Electric Wizard has been a leading force in Stoner / Psychedelic / Doom music for the past 19 years. Over that time they have released classic abums like the incomparable Come My Fanatics… and the legendary Dopethrone. Electric Wizard are one of the instantly recognizable names of the modern doom scene and have influenced countless bands to take up the doom mantle.
Their riffs are impossible to forget and their records are endlessly listenable. It’s no overstatement to say that Electric Wizard is synonymous with modern doom music and they are a huge inspiration for the Roadburn festival’s existence.
Roadburn is so excited and proud to be working with Jus and to have Electric Wizard headline their showcase day. It will truly be a celebration of doom and stoner rock. We look forward to this collaboration and can’t wait to see what the day shapes up to be!
Roadburn Festival 2013 will run for four days from Thursday, April 18th to Sunday, April 21st, 2013 (the traditional Afterburner event) at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland.
