ORCUS CHYLDE presents a unique flavor to Doom. Constantly moving on a strange route somewhere between proto-Doom, Blues and contemporary “Retro Rock” they manage to sound unique even though their roots are the standard ones. To some they may sound like a more spontaneous version WITCHCRAFT meets ANATHEMA (in their post-death era). As strange as this may sound, ORCUS CHYLDE will apply to fans of both aforementioned bands.
You see the quality of all compositions in the record is so high that there is no room for favorite subcategories. If you remember why you liked HENDRIX or BLACK SABBATH in the first place then there is no doubt you are going to love this debut. Tracks like the homonymous “Orcus Chylde” immediately get stacked in the brain, while melodies like “Over the Frozen Rivers” will travel you through space and time.
Most compositions are dark! Not really abyssal but at least darker than the last GRAVEYARD album if this sort of comparison just happen to pop into your mind when you heard the term Retro Rock. Solos are hypnotic while the use of Hammond organ gives this extra edge. Riffs are heavy, yet they retain a strong sense of romanticism which in the end is the trademark of the album.
I don’t need to say more…No doubt this is the debut of the year, one of the best records of 2012 and superstars of the genre on the rise!
